FOR THE VIETNAMESE SCHOOL

 

Teacher

Teachers at the Vietnam Heritage Center’s Vietnamese School lead Vietnamese classes at all levels, helping students develop skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. They also educate students on Vietnamese culture and customs. As a teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to help others, share your knowledge, and engage with a diverse group of students and individuals.

Qualifications

Must have advanced fluency in English and Vietnamese and reliable means of transportation to school on a weekly basis. Prior experience with teaching preferred but not required.

Required Commitment

Must be able to teach 2 hours/week for 12 weeks in the spring or fall. Additional time will also be required to develop lesson plans for students.


 

Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistants at the Vietnam Heritage Center’s Vietnamese School help teachers with class logistics such as attendance, homework, and proper note-taking. They also support students by answering questions and giving feedback during class. This is a unique opportunity to  help others and engage with a diverse group of students while further honing your own Vietnamese teaching skills in class.

Qualifications

Must have advanced fluency in English and fluency in Vietnamese is preferred, along with reliable transportation to school on a weekly basis. Prior experience with teaching preferred but not required.

Required Commitment

Must be able to assist with classes 2 hours/week for 12 weeks in the spring or fall. Additional time may be required to support teachers with logistics and lesson plans.  


 

Operations Coordinator

The Operations Associate helps ensure that the Vietnam Heritage Center’s Vietnamese School runs smoothly by assisting with school-wide logistics, including registration support, class scheduling, and communications throughout the semester. While this position does not require volunteers to attend classes, VHC would be pleased to offer you free tuition for one semester in return for your help.

Qualifications

Must have advanced fluency in English. Familiarity with Vietnamese preferred but not required. Volunteers should be organized and detail-oriented with regular access to email and Internet. Must be familiar with or willing to learn how to use online platforms such as SquareSpace, G Suite, and MailChimp.

Required Commitment

Must be available for at least 1 semester of classes (12 weeks) for 1-2 hours per week. Most work can be done remotely at home, but there may be instances where volunteers may have to come to the Vietnamese School to assist with in-class logistics.
