This is an introductory course for students ages 14+ who have little to no prior experience or formal study with Vietnamese.
* Students under 18 years old must provide written permission from a parent or guardian prior to enrolling.

About the Course
Student Profile
Students ages 14+, who have
No prior experience or formal study speaking, reading, writing, or listening to Vietnamese OR
Some experience with the language but have not been formally taught and still need to build a strong foundation in Vietnamese
What Students Learn
Vietnamese alphabet and tones
Pronunciation patterns and how to pronounce words
Everyday phrases and vocabulary
Dining out
Greeting family members
Describing yourself
Directions and places
Vietnamese customs
Class Schedule
Weeks 1-2: Introductions; alphabet, tones, greetings
Weeks 3-12: Sentence structure, ethnicities, locations, time, occupations, and more
Each subsequent class briefly reviews the preceding class
Each class will review common homework mistakes

Additional Details
Assessments will take the form of homework, quizzes and in-class participation.
Class materials include the textbookTiếng Việt cho Người Nước Ngoài - Volume 1 (Vietnamese as a Second Language), which is provided for students. Students are expected to use their own writing supplies, including paper, pencils, erasers, etc.
SPELLING & PRONUNCIATION CLASSES
S&P classes will take place in the first 2 weeks of class. Attendance is mandatory.
