This is a continuing course for those ages 14+ who already know the basics but need to further develop fundamental skills.

* Students under 18 years old must provide written permission from a parent or guardian prior to enrolling.

** Students who have not previously taken the Beginner 101 class but are eligible for the Beginner 102 class will be admitted on a case-by-case basis. Please inquire further here.

About the Course

 

Student Profile

Students ages 14+, who have 

  • Successfully completed the Adult Beginner 101 class OR

  • Are already proficient with all skills taught in the Adult Beginner 101 class but still need to build a strong foundation

What Students Learn

  • Vietnamese alphabet (review)

  • Vocabulary: Numbers, colors, days of week, months, time

  • Conversation: using current and past vocabulary 

  • Listening comprehension

  • Reading: from book and paragraph excerpt

Class Schedule

Week 1: Introductions; alphabet/tone/spelling review, vocabulary review

Weeks 2-12: Verb tense, directions, family structure, ordering food, and more

Each subsequent class briefly reviews the preceding class

Additional Details

Assessments will take the form of homework (corrections), skits and teamwork, mid-term and final exams, and in-class participation.

Class materials include the textbook Tiếng Việt cho Người Nước Ngoài - Volume 1 (Vietnamese as a Second Language), which is provided for students. Students are expected to bring their own writing supplies, including paper, pencils, erasers, etc.
